About
Yoshie Allan is a Japanese-born, UK-based visual artist.
Her work brings a sense of playfulness and poetry to mixed media, including acrylic painting, layered fabric collage, abstract ink drawing, and metal leaf gilding.
She is drawn to organic shapes, and to the light and shadow found in nature, as well as emotional flow and imaginative connections, which she uses as starting points for her work.
Through layering, texture, and material exploration, Yoshie creates visually rich and immersive pieces that aim to evoke curiosity and quiet reflection.
Her practice reflects a deep engagement with the organic and the tactile, shaped by material sensitivity and an intuitive approach to making.
Her work has been exhibited in both the UK and Japan, and she continues to engage with audiences through solo and group exhibitions, public art projects, and workshops.
Artistic Journey
Shaped by the natural landscapes of her childhood in Fukushima, a lifelong love of animals, and a hands-on family environment of painting, sewing and music, Yoshie’s artistic development reflects an early and sustained engagement with creative making.
Her early urban experiences in Tokyo, combined with formal study in fashion design at Esmod Japon, evolved into a self-directed exploration of mixed media and experimental visual forms.
Yoshie began her career as a freelance illustrator in Tokyo in 2006 and has since developed a mixed-media visual art approach, distinct from her illustration work. Her current work investigates the interplay of texture, colour and narrative, producing pieces that are both poetic and visually immersive.
